Reply to Mackenzie from Tony

I hate Mackenzie Kenney with a passion,
And she drives me crazy.
She has no sense of fashion,
And she is so very lazy.

Her hair is so brown and long,
I can't even stand it.
When I look at her see is King Kong,
I want to throw a fit.

I'm so very sorry Mackenzie,
But I do not like you as you like me.
This I wish you could see:
That me and you will never be.

Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Dear Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream,
You are amazing and you never let me down with your delicious taste. Every bite makes me love you even more than before. I love the way you are cold and frozen, but how you slowly melt after you are taken out of the freezer. I love your raspberry red/pink color and those chunky bits of chocolate that melt in my mouth. I savor every bite so that I can just spend more time with you. I remember all those summer days that we spent together and the good times we had. I will always love you Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.

Macbeth

Macbeth has been a little difficult to understand, because the language is confusing. I like when we summarize as a class what we have read; it helps me understand what is going on.

Canterbury

1. St. Augustine, the first Archbishop of Canterbury, came from Rome as a missionary. The King, Ethelbert, gave Augustine a church at Canterbury.
2. The church was a place of worship during the Roman occupation of Britain.
3. It is the oldest church in England that is still in use today.
4. Founded in 597 AD
5. King Henry VIII dissolved the monastery in 1540. The Saxons then rebuilt and enlarged the Cathedral. After a large fire in 1070, the Cathedral was entirely rebuilt by the Normans

Elegy

"To the Dead" by Frank Bidart
"O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman
"Funeral Blues" by W. H. Auden
I don't really have a specific reason why I chose "To the Dead" or "Funeral Blues", but I chose "O Captain! My Captain!" because I had heard it before and was a little familiar with it.
"Funeral Blues" shows how important their loved one was. It shows that their life and death was very significant by saying "The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun."
"To the Dead" expresses the longing to be with that certain person that died. "What I hope (when I hope) is that we'll see each other again,--
. . . and again reach the VEIN
in which we loved each other . .
It existed. It existed."
"O Captain! My Captain!" doesn't really give me a sense of mourning, but of shock. The person writing wasn't expecting/accepting the death of Abe Lincoln.

Writing

As a freshman I struggled with staying on topic and supporting my thesis. Somehow I always managed to stray away from the point I was trying to make. I think I was just trying to fill space and I was not really thinking about proving my point or opinion. Now I still sometimes struggle with that, but not as much. Now I struggle with the littler things like citing works and I usually make some grammatical errors. Also, I sometimes find myself not analyzing my work just stating facts or summarizing.
I get frustrated when my writing is graded and one teacher likes my type of writing and another doesn't. I always get conflicting feedback and don't really know what to make of it. Freshman year my teacher loved my style of writing, but I can't say that about sophomore year. I often got C's and D's on my papers when it seemed like everyone else was getting A's and B's.
The most difficult part of writing for me is actually forming the basis of my paper and wording it so that it makes sense to the reader. Many times I will write something that makes perfect sense to me, then I will have my mom read it and she won't have a clue what I'm talking about.

"The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say." ~Anaïs Nin

Hero

I have never really sat down and thought about who my "hero" is, and I cannot say that I have a specific one in mind. Of course my parents and relatives are very important and influential in my life, but my family has never had to go through anything traumatic or life-changing. Usually when people are asked about who their hero is they respond with something along the lines of Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jordan, George Washington or some other famous person. My definition of a hero is someone who goes against the odds and accomplishes what he/she desires. I recently read an article about a teenage boy, Ben Underwood, who is blind without eyes. His eyes were removed at age two and he developed a technique of locating objects around a room. He uses echolocation, as bats do, to distinguish what things are and where they are located. Ben is now just as normal as any other teenager and he enjoys playing basketball, skate boarding, riding bikes, and playing football. He uses the echolocation to move about freely without a service dog or cane. In my opinion this teenager is quite the inspiration; he has overcome so many stereotypes and discriminations. He persues his dreams and lives life as an average boy. Even though I have never met him, Ben Underwood is a hero.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog page. My name is Sarah Powers and I live in Ohio. I am currently attending a public high school and I am in eleventh grade. After highschool I plan to attend a university in a ohio and study architectural engineering or just architecture. I play soccer for Kings Soccer Academy and I think of my team as a second family. My actual family only has four people- me, my sister and parents. I have a dog named Chloe and a cat named Yipes (he has stripes and we chose the name Yipes because it rhymes). I am a fanatic fan of the shows 24 and Lost, they are very exciting and attention grabbing.
